Artist’s Statement99.6% of all art is lost. In time, we’re all lost. Less than 1% of us are remembered. Those who are, owe this less to speech than to symbols: art. Art is no boast, allegory, or icon. Art predates language, and remains more durable. Stone-age paintings cut through slabs of time like they weren't there. We’re told that art can be recognized by balance between consistency and contrast; tone and texture; regularity and asymmetry. Cave paintings remind us of the difference between what art looks like, and what art is: acquaintance beyond time. Against all odds, I have a feeling. Paul William Wicks - March 15, 2004
